Professor Phil S. Yang, who is also the author of “A Country Without Chinatown,” organized the Seoul Chinatown Promotion Committee in 1997 with overseas Chinese leaders to build a 21st-century Chinatown.

Seoul Chinatown Promotion Committee started developing Ilsan Chinatown (68,851.12m2) of Modern & Green Chinatown, the first and largest private development project in Korea. It later invited Prime Development Co., Ltd., and land purchase for the Ilsan Chinatown was completed in December, 2016.

Meanwhile, as a result of the Seoul Chinatown Promotion Committee's efforts to enhance the legal status of overseas Chinese, foreign residents living in Korea, including overseas Chinese, have been able to enjoy the benefits of the green card system since May, 2002.

By building Chinatown and Koreatown, which are global business hubs, in the Asian region, CKT has played a leading role in the era of globalization that unites each other as global neighbors.
